Google I/O 2023
Back
Today marks the fifteenth time Google I/O is held, the annual event at which Google announces its latest products. For example, Android was first shown at Google I/O in 2008, and HTML 5 was announced in 2011.
This year, Google is expected to unveil a foldable phone, launch its own tablet and reveal more details about Android version 14. But what everyone is looking forward to is, of course, how Google will respond to ChatGPT's integration into Microsoft's Bing search engine, how it will adapt Google Search and what steps it is taking in the field of AI. Expectations are high, now let's see if Google can live up to them...
The name Google I/O has been used since 2007. The name would stand for “Input / Output”, the concept by which the computer interacts with the outside world or for “Innovation in the Open”.
However, according to Google itself, the name is based on a number: googol, the number that also gave its name to the Google company. A googol is a number consisting of a '1' followed by 100 zeros. I/O would then be formed by the '1' and the '0', the first two digits of a googol.
The Google Keynote (the main presentation) by Sundar Pichai will start at 10 AM Pacific Time (= 7 PM in Amsterdam).
