Google is testing its own chatbot

Back

Google asked its employees to test several potential competitors for the popular chatbot ChatGPT, including a chatbot called "Apprentice Bard." This chatbot may integrate Google into its well-known search engine.

The accelerated testing of the chatbot is part of the alarm phase that Google has declared after the success of ChatGPT. In 'Apprentice Bard', users can enter a question and get an answer, and then provide feedback on the answer, just like in ChatGPT. Apprentice Bard uses Google's conversation technology LaMDA, or Language Model for Dialogue Applications. This technology is slightly more advanced than the language model used by ChatGPT. For example, unlike ChatGPT, Apprentice Bard's responses can include recent events, and staff have noticed that Apprentice Bard's reactions have become more sophisticated in recent weeks.

Also, Google's model focuses more than just on language. In answer to the riddle: 'There are three women in a room. Two of them are mothers and have just given birth. Now the fathers of the children enter. What is the total number of people in the room?', ChatGPT answers that 'there are five people in the room', while LaMDA correctly answers that 'there are seven people in the room'.
It's still being determined when and how Google plans to include this, or any other chatbot, in future products.
