Google Search better than company website?

The company Google grew because its search engine delivered faster, more relevant and better search results than all the search engines in use at the time. Altavista, Ilse and Yahoo! disappeared or were marginalized by Google. And even now, Google Search is unrivaled as a search engine, as this week's incident showed.
Last Saturday, Jasper van Kuijk (winner of 'De Slimste Mens') had to go through the dust in his column in de Volkskrant. The week before he had written that Coolblue should make it possible to have washing machines repaired just as easily as ordering a new one. He could not find a repair service on the Coolblue website when he searched for it on the site itself.
In response to the first column, readers let him know that Coolblue does have a repair service. Google also indicated that this service is provided. But when Jasper van Kuijk searched the Coolblue website again, the search term 'repair washing machine' again yielded no search results.

Always check with Google…

What turned out? The search function on the Coolblue website is rather picky with search terms: the term 'repair washing machine' does not yield any results; the search term 'washing machine repair' did... And Jasper van Kuijk had searched for 'repair washing machine'. This service was easy to find in Google.
Jasper admits that he should have double-checked: “if there are no search results, try Google as well.” A wise lesson.
The moral of this story is that Google Search gives results that the search function on company websites does not find. And that says a lot about the quality of Google Search results. So Google does not have to worry about the quality of this.
