Google vs ChatGPT. Who is going to win?
Back
Well-known IT blogger Neil Patel expects Google to 'crush' AI tool ChatGPT. He says this because, according to him, Google has access to more and better data. According to him, if Google starts developing and training AI tools, ChatGPT will no longer be able to compete with them. He even says on LinkedIn that "ChatGPT will only stay at the top as long as Google allows it."
In the comments, however, others point out that not only data determines the success of an AI tool. The effective use of data in training is also a crucial factor. In addition, ChatGPT focuses on natural language processing, an area in which Google still needs to excel.
Google has so far focused more on general artificial intelligence (AGI), or "how can we make machines solve humanity's most difficult problems". For example, in 2016, AlphaGo from DeepMind (a subsidiary of Alphabet / Google) defeated a professional player of the thinking game Go, which is even more complicated than chess, for the first time. And last summer, an algorithm from DeepMind predicted the 3D structures of nearly all proteins known to man. Google expects AGI to change the fabric of human life much as electricity did.
What will Google do?
Now that ChatGPT (with it Microsoft) has thrown the bat in the coop, what will Google do? Will Google also focus on language processing, and if so, won't it undermine its business model of generating revenue from advertising?
Openai and Microsoft can profit from subscribers or licenses; Google makes money from search and advertising. An AI tool that provides instant answers to questions makes search irrelevant. In that sense, ChatGPT poses a significant threat to Google. And specifically, if Microsoft succeeds in integrating ChatGPT with the internet, which is yet to be the case.
Ultimately, the competition between the different AI models will drive innovation and improve users. At this point, ChatGPT has made a strong opening move, waiting for Google's response.
