How do you get the best answer from AI?
Back
Now that AI is increasingly included in search engines, the question is how best to elicit a sensible answer from AI (artificial intelligence). Some people get mostly soulless and laughable answers to their questions; others know how to elicit a much better result from AI. It is mainly about asking the right question. Because the way you ask the question determines the quality of the answer.
AI is becoming an important part of Google Search, but even Google acknowledged at their annual Google I/O event that it's hard to ask AI the right questions. In a demo of Duet AI (AI tools that will be included in Gmail and Docs), Google showed off a feature called Sidekick. This feature suggests prompts (questions) that change with the Workspace document you are working on. In other words, it represents the questions you can ask AI. This is also reflected in the new search engine with AI, the Search Generative Experience (SGE). Each question you ask is followed by follow-up questions suggested by the search engine.
Different way of searching
Most people search with keywords, such as 'expert online marketing delft', not with questions such as "What fun things can I do if I go to Paris for a weekend?". But the clues and questions you ask determine the answer you get. Short, open and not very specific questions leave a lot free; you actually have to leave AI very little room for interpretation and tell AI exactly what you need. Make your assignments and questions long and hyper-specific. And even then it may be necessary or desirable to reformulate questions to get exactly the answer you are looking for. Because if you are not satisfied with the answer, ask the question again in a different form.
Getting a valuable answer from AI is ultimately about asking the right questions. You need to know exactly what you want from AI. And that is quite a job in itself.
