When we optimized our customers for the Dutch search engine Ilse, there was still the idea that search engines are limited by language and location. When Google came on the scene, that obviously wasn't the case. After all, the general need is to find the right information, products, and places in every language and in every location. And that offers business opportunities. And it is the reason that our team, like many of our customers, is international.

In an international SEO strategy, it is important that the website clearly indicates which language and which target group is involved. In addition, it is important to think about local links from other websites in the target group area (international backlinks). These international backlinks ultimately confirm that a website does indeed have support among the local population. So, if you want to score in the United Kingdom, do not focus on links in the United States in international link building, even if those websites are also in English, but organize links on websites from the United Kingdom.

However, it is not our intention to bore you with how it works. It is much more important to realize that your positions in the Netherlands already influence the opportunities abroad. We regularly see that positions in Germany, for example, are rising by turning the right buttons in the Netherlands. Note: This does not concern top positions on highly competitive search terms, but you certainly don't have to start from scratch if you already have a good base in the Netherlands.

1. Defining goals, analysing local competition, and prioritizing search terms.
2. Technical optimization of the website, so that Google knows where the target group is located.
3. Processing the search terms in the texts, so that you are relevant.
4. International link building: organizing local links to the website, so that Google knows that you are locally relevant.
5. Reporting of the positions achieved, locally and in the correct language.
